Hannukah 2009

Tonite is the first night of Hannukah. I cleaned my grandmother's menorah this morning and shortly will go on a hunt for candles in the attic. Plan to make Julia Child's latkies for dinner instead of my grandmother's because she uses butter which I prefer. My family celebrates our Jewishness through food and because I love latkies, this is one of my most favorite holidays. At sundown I'll light the candles, say the prayers my mother and grandmother said, doing the same thing. There is something so comforting about all this.
