Paly Girls In Oaxaca 2009
This October Julie Sims Ball and I joined Jane Saxe Robison and her sister, Barbara (Barbie) Saxe Stubblefield in Oaxaca Mexico for Day of the Dead which actually is more like a week long celebration. For us, it was a time to honor our friend and Jane's husband Thorny (Thornton Robsion) and to celebrate our over 50 years of friendship. Akkk. Did I really say that?
The ''Day of the Dead'' (El Día de los Muertos) is a celebrated in Mexico as a holiday for family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. And, that is what we did.
The celebration occurs on November 1st, and 2nd in connection with All Saints Day which occurs on November 1st and All Souls day which occurs on November 2nd.

Over the week (in addition to some sightseeing and shopping) we helped to build an altar at Casa Colonial (Jane's wonderful small hotel in Oaxaca) to honor the deceased, which included photos of Thorny, parents and other loved ones, skeletons to represent the dead, tons of flowers including marigolds and "cock's combs", favorite foods, beer, Mescal, a joint and a package of Marborough's for Thorn Dog.
As Jane said about our time together, "We shared some good stories. I am oh, so happy to live in an era where can zip around in airplanes, use the web, and keep in touch with one another".
