Back in Mozambique

 Musings on my return

My room overlooking the Indian Ocean

In many ways it feels like I have never left because somethings never seem to change

πŸ™‹The way too long flight (even in Business Class) with kind attendants on and off the plane is actually pleasant in a suspended animation kinda way (Dune like).  Is it because I am an older woman with grey hair travelling alone or is there still good service outside of North America ?

πŸ˜‚The usual chaos of arrival and the shock of the seemingly unorganized African approach to customs and immigration. This year's variation is that the customs man only looked at two of my bags, took pity on "Grandma" (yes he actually said that) and let me out of purgatory. The cool part is the bag he didn't look in had all the medical equipment I brought for Sierra.  Phew!

😏 The last minute change I found out during my Dubai stopover for pick up.  Khi had a capoeira performance so Sierra sent a helper to get me. Thankfully she spoke English and Portuguese which helped me through the airport maze including the seemingly endless men who appear out of the landscape and want to push your cart, give you a ride or just find a way to make money off a tourist.

πŸ˜• The complete reverse of day and night on my body and the complete change of season. This year it was from winter in North America to a very hot summer day in Mozambique.  Staying up to reduce jet lag and trying to sleep when my body says wake up.  And no time to chill - got to get with the Sierra and Khi program!!!

Day One:  Beach Trip

It's hot and the weekend and Sierra has visiting doctors here so we went to Punta Macaneta, our favourite beach a 40 minute boat ride away:

swimming in the Indian Ocean (the best ever!)

Getting off our boat at the beach

Rub a Dub Dub:10 Frenchmen in a boat

Khi Khi in his swim outfit

Flame lily (Gloriosa superba)

Chinese lantern tree (Dichrostachys cinerea)

And a Humpback vertabrae
