Land crabs on the Pacific Coast
So I forgot to mention that the other night we came home from dinner to this symphony of land crabs. Seriously! Hundreds of them walking around on the sand, close to the house, kinda creepy actually. I didn't realize that they only appear occasionally but when the do it is like a mini Jurrasic Park (little did I realize that Steven Speilberg filmed near here for his movie but thanks to Google I just figured it out) but See below for crabs

Hah. You think I'm kidding. Apparently their migration is linked to the lunar cycle and weather patterns. We are told there has been unusual amounts of rain this January which is likely why there is such a heavy migration (at least one night) .
And then last night Patti and I had a girls night out and saw an excessive number of Lounge Lizards. We were taken by a local woman friend to an open air bar. It was like being in a movie, something like a version of the song Hotel California....anytime of year you can find it here.... Hope I don't sound cruel but bars are definitely not my scene and seeing old hippies, affluent Midwesterners and young "hungry" kids (girls in bikinis and loud guys in tank tops) drinking way too much was curious for a short while but quickly became sticky and uncomfortable. Happy to be back in my quiet room. But, I gotta say it was cool to hear the local songster sing a Leon Russell tune and Uncle John's Band...is there really danger at my door but no time to hate, barely time to wait....definitely got some things to talk about...
