Birding on The River
Today was spectacular. Susan, the owner of Los Cocos and our guide, took Patti! Brian, Hugh, Barbra and me birding on their boat on the river, back canals and river estuary near Zancudo. . We got up at Ferry Time, piled into her car and then to a boat by 7:00 and off we went. So many birds I have never seen previously, friends I know quite well (Great Blue Heron, cattle egret etc), friends from previous trips (green herons and parrots) but so many new ones. Wow. And we saw crocs, caymin and dolphins playing in the river. Plus, we also got to see cows being motored down the river in a wooden pen and Howler Monkeys in the trees. Heard Toucans but didn't see them.
Brian says it was the best river trip he has been on and this was his 5th attempt. I tried to take photos of the birds but I couldn't look and take shots. Just too greedy to see them. I did take a couple of pix (one is below) of the river that gives one an idea of how tropical it is. Just below are begonias, ficus, and lord knows what else. I think this area is considered a mangrove lagoon. A nursery for the fish and 878 species of birds ....the diversity is overwhelming. Seems North and South American birds both migrate here, just like we snow birds.
