Escuela des Amigos
I spoke to the Assistant Principal of Monteverde Friends School yesterday and found out that I will be staying with a local Tico family when I am there. Marisela teaches at the school, grades 1-4 Spanish. Paco is her husband and they have three kids. Massimo who is in 2nd grade, Angelina who is in 4th and Annalise's who is in 10th grade. I will have a room of my own but will be part of the family. Funny, I didn't ask for their last name....I arrive in Monteverde on February 15th. I'm getting excited. I'm hoping Massimo will take me under his wing and help me with my Spanish.
I as told that on the day I arrive there is a talent show to highlight the biodiversity of the region. The kids are putting it on for some biologists from Mt Arenal who are coming to visit. Should be fascinating. She asked if I minded attending and did I know anything about biodiversity. Not of the region I said but I certainly understood the concept....and chuckled to myself.
Oh, I asked her if I needed to get more bug spray and she said they don't have Mosquitos or noseeums, just spiders and scorpions and that it gets cold at night. New critters....scorpions are a bit scary but I'll learn to manage around them and will definitely shake out my shoes in the morning.
