Physics Experiments in Monteverde

Turns out that all th grade 11/12 take physics for a semester.  As part of their course they need to do an applied experiment that involves research, alot of mathamatical modelng and is numerically and spacially challenging.  This year they made cardboard boats based on their weight and the challenge was to see if they would float.  They were evaluated on th height, width, length of the boat, time above water, distance traveld, velocity, boat design, costume or theme.

It was amazing what the kids did and hilarious.  We walked the boats up the road to a local hotel pool and the games began.  See below.
These girls had the designer boat, great concept and design but it didn't float
Their outfits were fetching .....And then.....ther boat immediately sank

Here are the winners.  They reinforced the middle of the boat hitch helpd keep it afloat

They made back and forth 3 times.  I am not certain MIT students could do better! After everybody piled into the hot tub.......teachers too
