Last Day at school
Well, here I am in my new school Tshirt. A treasured gift, notwithstanding the ugly selfie.
It's been quite a bittersweet day. The 3/4 class gave me a performance yesterday and today one of their teachers baked me amazing lemon squares which we all ate while the kids told me how great I am. They are the ones I helped build a garden, make salad, and make healthy treats. Here are some photos from the last two days.....
The performers and Michelle, the art and music teacher.
And, cookin....
And so it ends. What an interesting 3 months. Many adventures, lots of interesting places and people. More importantly, I've learned to be comfortable being a single senior. also, I now have confidence about traveling alone in a foreign country (at least a Spanish speaking one) and I've refound my groove and inner self. Plus, I've relearned that I am the happiest when I can be of service to something that greater than myself and makes the world a better place. And, I must add that it's been really wonderful to live and work in a place where kindness is practiced tho not always achieved but clearly aspired to as the norm. Hope I can nurture these learnings whilst back home. Did I post a photo of their garden....well, here is another....
Even more amazing is the booklet that the 7/8 and 9/10ers put together for me. It's a treasure and includes some heartfelt comments that made my eyes tear. I especially like a note from one of the younger girls who wrote" I remember that time you told us you were immature but the term you used was forever young." Ahhh. What strikes me after all this time of working here is that these kids are not as jaded and cynical as kids in North America and therefore aren't as reluctant to share their feelings and.or find adults kinda interesting. However, the best comment of the day was from a very precocious young man who said, "you really had some interesting ideas and I learned a few things plus you are fun to argue with." I think my job is done!
And, of course, Fridays are the 52 year old Scrabble game with the older Quakers. I had to capture the moment....it is a unique experience (and so is the "house" of Marvin Rockwell of the bald head). Figure my greying hair was my entrance into this elite club :) That and the intro from my Argenta pal Liz (who also has grey hair). As Marisella says, the cream of the cream... Crema de la crema.
Just to let those of you who may be reading this that while I've learned some things, wild and crazy still is who I am.
