Stream Testing at the Reserve

The students in grades 9/10 are studying biology.  One of their units is sampling the stream in the Monteverde Reserve for dissolved oxygen, testing for velocity, water temperature, depth and so on. They are doing it as part of the overall stream testing program sponsored by the Institute. Yesterday the kids learned how to make traps to capture invertebrates, that are euphemistically  called crab tacos.  They are all such keeners.  Here at some photos that capture the morning.

Installing the traps and making sure they don't float away!

There are always some who forget their boots but that didn't stop them.
