Feeling Out There
So, it is Saturday Night. Home alone.
Interesting day. Started by by being taken by my neighbour to the Ferria in Santa Elena to buy fruits and vegetables. Met some of the students there and, of course, met their relatives - Grandmas, Uncles and brothers. Got all kinds of lovely greens, peppers, papaya, oranges (that don't taste or look like the ones we get), limons (limes), tomatoes, etc.Its so cool to be able to buy things from people one knows. There is an honesty I find very appealing.
And, I have: Sore throat which has bought me time out. I figure my body is telling me I need some alone time. Yesterday after a long week was just too much.
After lunch I went to a lecture at the Institute offered by Arther Larrabee who is apparently well known for his "Sense of the Meeting Decision-Making". I found him to be a cross between a pixi and a friendly uncle with an edge. He told us there is a difference between a "Sense of the Meeting" ((Quaker Term I think) and Consensus Decision-Making. I struggle to understand. He had all kinds of interesting and somewhat cutesy phrases to illustrate but ultimately his term "Being in Unity" means one stands aside when appropriate to create unity when there is some kind of energy for a decision. We sure could use this type of decision making on Saturna but I can't imagine some of my neighbours being able to separating their personal preferences from what may be different right outcomes for the community.
I guess that illustrates one of the things I really like about this community of Monteverde. There are obvious differences here, as there is everywhere, but people definitely strive to seek making decisions together. It is an interesting and thought provoking choice. Not always possible but their view is that the community is strengthened by unity achieved through trying to reach unity, if possible.
So, off for a vino tinto....is anybody out there? Rain tonite here but it is warm.
